No one is good except god alone. Jesus answered, “why do you call me good ·only god is good [no one is good except one—god C jesus is not denying his own divinity, but is challenging the man’s understanding of goodness].
“and jesus said to him, why do you call me good And this is eternal life, that they know you, the only true god, and jesus christ whom you have sent I glorified you on earth, having accomplished the work that you gave me to do. By drawing attention to the word “good,” jesus reveals how easily we can use divine language superficially The man speaks rightly—jesus is indeed good—but he does not grasp the theological weight of that word To call jesus “good” is to call him god, for only god is good in the absolute sense.
