I read different post about wheel rake pros and cons

One topic i often see is dirt in/on the raked hay I must say that issue has never once been discussed within my family or circle of friends We almost never rake/bale high moisture hay so it’d seem there would only be very minimal dirt. We are in the mulch square bale business and have been convinced by our seed rep to try sudangrass where we grew cereal rye in the fall Essentially going to a double crop hay/ straw setup on some fields My question, is anyone growing or tried sudangrass

This is a neat site There seems to be a lot of experience on here I live in a typically drier part of the country A lot of you are going to read this twice, i cut hay with a 25' draper head I can get some country down I use the hay head for the heavy hay though.

I know i have seen people talk about what height to cut hay at all over the internet but i wanted to ask some questions specific to my situation to boost my confidence

We are running a 209 discbine and with it set at max height we can only leave about 2.5 to 3 inches of stubble Discuss mowers, rakes, balers, tedders, accumulators, choppers, and any other machinery. The more consistent the hay is feed into the bailer the better We want the hay to go into the uprights of the balewagon and just squeeze into the uprights with a small amount of pressure To long and it can be really hard on the sheet metal and pins holding the second table and even brake bale strings. A forum community dedicated to hay, forage and silage owners and enthusiasts

Come join the discussion about tractors, machinery, harvesting, soils, pests, ranching, reviews, accessories, classifieds, and more! With lighter hay (including 2nd and on cuttings), we may have doubled or tripled the windows (taking 2 or 3 mower passes together) Hay that sees neither of these will not dry in a timely manner Now when it rains i do kick myself for not getting my project tedder resting in the weeds fixed yet as even my rake which will make loose airy windrows is not the best tool for drying rained on hay but when its all you got it is what you use especially when you a small timer like me. I have read on here about people putting salt between the layers of bales when stacking in the barn i put some hay in the barn with a nh balewagon and the bales are questionable thought about restacking with the grapples and putting some salt on them so how much salt and what kind of salt maybe.
