Anthropic, a major artificial intelligence company, has agreed to pay at least $1.5 billion to settle a copyright infringement lawsuit filed by a group of authors. Anthropic will pay at least $3,000 for each copyrighted work that it pirated The company downloaded unauthorized copies of books in early efforts to gather training data for its ai tools. Authors had sued anthropic, claiming the artificial intelligence startup had illegally used their books to train its models.
